Prayagraj: This might have started as a small step, but inmates nested in Naini’s central prison now make bed linen, towels and carpet handsloom.
Prison Authority appreciated the hard work of prisoners, who wrote a success story after producing 1,476 bed linen, 2,760 carpets and 3,360 towels between April 1, 2020 and 30 March 2021.
Orders for sheets, towels and ‘durrie’ continued to devote from different prisons and other sectors.
Prisoners also managed to produce and sell more than 44,784kg washing powder and 2,34,840 pieces of bath soap between April 1, 2020 and March 2021 and the order had not stopped.
Pandey, senior prison in prison Inspector Naini, said: “The prisoners have produced various products such as detergent cakes, bath soap, phenyl, floor mats, gamchha and cotton masks.” He said “a group of 25 inmates worked tirelessly to form sheets, cotton carpets and towels with various sizes and shapes, which were supplied to 72 district prisons and central prisons throughout the state.” “Orders for sheets, towels and cotton carpets come from various prisons and sectors,” said Pandey, added “prisoners also made sustainable efforts to improve their skills.” The prisoners provided raw materials for making sheets, towels and cotton carpets and these articles were made on request.
In addition, inmates also make wood furniture in the place, supplied to many sectors, including the court above.
