Colombo: All-rounder Dasun Shanaka is ready to replace Kusal Perera as captain of the Overs Limited Sri Lanka team ahead of the ODI and T20 series against India, starting July 13.
The 29-year-old children, a bursting Batsman and A Seat Bowler, will be the sixth captain of Sri Lanka in less than four years if he gets the job.
DINESH CHANDIMAL, Angelo Mathews, Lasith Malinga, Dictut Karunaratne and Perera have become captains at several points since the beginning of 2018.
Shanaka has led the national team when it cleanses Pakistan in the T20i series three matches in 2019.
According to him a report at Espncricinfo, “Captain’s Switch Only a part is a consequence of performance in the field.
” “Even though Sri Lanka has lost the three series they play under a Perera, the Board and Selectors have replaced it after he is considered to have played a central role in a contract deadlock between players and boards, for the past few months,” said the report.
The Sri Lankan players were locked in the old line with the country’s cricket board (SLC) on the national contract which ended on Wednesday after 29 of the 30 players signed up for the Indian series.
It is believed that Perera is a person who “pushed the group to continue to survive”, while “Shanaka seems to have become the first to approve signing a tourist contract Sri Lanka Cricket”.
“According to several players, the group has decided early on Tuesday to continue to oppose the council.
However, some players – Shanaka included – have signed a contract immediately after that,” said the report.
Under SLC-based payment plans, 24 leading players have been offered contracts under four categories.
Only six players in category A and their annual payments range from USD 70,000 to 100,000.
Players feel the plan does not have transparency and the proposed payment will be much lower than the scale of payment of the Federation of the International Cricket Association (FICA).
Angelo Mathews, Arts among current player plants, and captain testing Dimak Karunaratne found themselves excluded from the contract offered on Wednesday morning.
Immediately after, Mathews withdrew from the Indian series which quoted personal reasons and also signaled retirement.
India will play three ODIs on July 13, 16 and 18, followed by T20IS on July 21 and 25.
All matches will be played at R Premadasa Stadium here.
