Colombo: South African captain Toba Bavuma was ruled out from the rest of the one-day international series in Sri Lanka on Friday with a broken right thumb who was maintained when he was hit by throwing a fielder when hitting.
Bavuma’s injury came for 14-run South African defeat at ODI opening on Thursday.
He kept hitting but only for a short time before retirees were injured.
Bavuma will return to South Africa to see a specialist “as soon as possible” and Spin Bowler Keshav Maharaj will take over as captain for the second and third Odis, said the South Africa Cricket.
The team will also play three T20 games.
