MADRID: The Spanish police said on Tuesday they had arrested three people on the murder of Samuel Luiz, who were beaten to death in the northern city of Coruna on Saturday in an anti-gay crime that was alleged that triggered mass protests throughout the country.
“Investigations remain open to the facts fully clarified.
Further arrests are not ruled out in the coming hours,” National Police Service Tweeted.
The 24-year-old nursing assistant was killed in early Saturday outside the nightclub.
A witness interviewed on Television La Sexta said one of the attackers shouted with homophobics during the attack.
The protesters took to the streets of Spain’s main cities on Monday night to vent their anger in murder and demand better protection for gay rights.
The riot police in Madrid Baton collected several demonstrators, encouraged the government to open an investigation into their behavior.
Maria Jesus Montero’s spokesman said it was important to highlight the rejection of the Spanish community to crime but the police were justified in their response to restore order.
Previously on Tuesday the cabinet agreed to the bill to tighten the sexual assault law and define all non-consensual sexes as rape as part of a broader impulse to legislate against the attitude of macho historically.
