NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old sweeper has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of an octogenarian who is sick in Tilak Nagar Delhi Barat on Sunday.
The police said the case was difficult to be wrapped in the absence of CCTV recordings.
However, scanning recording from other parts in the area helped the police zero in a man named Ankit for the crime.
Allegations of life in the area and were drunk at the time of the incident.
He told the police that he entered the 87-year-old woman’s house with the intention of stealing.
When he saw the woman alone, he also attacked him before running away with his cellphone.
Chinmoy Balmal, ACP (West Range), said, “In addition to a special investigation team, 20 other police teams were formed considering gravity of violations.
After the massive efforts to identify and arrest the defendant, Ankit aka Jhandal aka Mogli was arrested.
He was hired as a part-time sweeper In Ashok Nagar, close to the crime site.
“Gautam Prashant, additional DCP (West), added,” Ankit admitted to crime.
The woman’s cellphone and the defendant’s clothing worn at the time of the incident had been restored.
“The investigator said that it was a blind case without CCTV cameras that cover crime sites.
Police, therefore, must depend on CCTV cameras on the road and nearby routes.
Some people with descriptions that match the defendants were tracked, entry, came out and their movements were examined before Ankit was determined to be the culprit.
People were also questioned, leading to the identification of the defendant.
During interrogation, Ankit revealed that while walking around, he decided to enter the building to do theft.
He found one of the door sticking from outside and entered the house.
Inside, he found a 87-year-old woman alone and when she asked her why she was there, she replied that she came to gas repair.
The police said that finding the woman alone, Ankit raced the door from inside and told him that the door was closed for a mistake and he could not open it.
When he heard this, the woman gave her call to Ankit to call her daughter to open the door from the outside.
Instead, Ankit forced himself to the old woman after he grabbed his phone and escaped from the house.
According to the police, the incident occurred between 12:30 a.m.
and 13:30 on Sunday when the 65-year-old daughter left the house for the streets after lunch.
