Colombo: The long-ranking line between Sri Lanka Cricket and his cricket on the national contract took a new turn on Wednesday with Senior Player Angelo Mathews signaling retirement after not being offered a contract.
Its development came ahead of the series of house overs limited to India which began here on July 13.
Mathews, Arts among current plants, and testing captain Dimak Karunaratne found themselves excluded from the contract offered on Wednesday.
Unhappy Mathews reportedly wrote to SLC administration stating that he was considering retirement.
He is expected to make the formal announcement of his intention in a few days.
What SLC does on Wednesday is offering contracts based on each tour, SLC source said.
There will be no annual contract because the urgent need is to sign players for the series against India, he said.
The source said that all players who had previously refused to sign a contract did sign them on Wednesday after they were given the deadline of July 8.
Under SLC-based payment plans, 24 leading players have been offered contracts under four categories.
In the category released, only six players in category A and their annual payments range from USD 70,000 to 100,000.
Players feel the plan does not have transparency and the proposed payment will be much lower than the scale of payment of the Federation of the International Cricket Association (FICA).
The players have flown to England for a limited overs tour without signing a national contract.
