Coimbatore: Minister of Health MA Subramanian on Wednesday inaugurated the ‘small heart project’, a kg hospital initiative to identify children with heart disease by filtering free at school.
Everywhere children who suffer from heart disease have congenital heart defects, problems with the heart structure.
Default heart defects include holes in the heart wall, narrow valves, leaking valves and sometimes a combination of some defects.
Initial heart screenings will help diagnose disease before symptoms arise.
“The school screening program was carried out by KG Hospital, where children with heart disease were detected and taken to hospitals from the government or private hospitals for free surgical corrections under the government insurance scheme,” said Dr.
Bakthvathsalam, Chair of Kg Hospital.
The same conditions at home and lack of awareness among parents and teachers contribute to the majority of children’s heart disease, experts said.
From the age of four to 19, heart disease occurs due to congenital reasons or rheumatic heart disease.
Many children do not participate in sports activities that need power deployment.
They may be physically weak and unable to overcome other children in aerobic exercise.
The Minister also inaugurated the soul-saving medical equipment such as patient monitors, syringe pumps, non-invasive ventilators and ventilators at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital.
The equipment was sponsored by Robert Bosch Engineering Solutions and was purchased by the Aram Foundation Charital Trust, a city-based NGO, to increase the Covid-19 ICU unit in the hospital.
