Melbourne: Spin Legend Shane Warnne has supported Pat Cummins to become the next Australian test captain, said the time is right for Spearhead Pace to take over the role of the Paine team.
Paine got out of the post on Friday after being investigated by Cricket Australia (CA) to send an explicit message to a female colleague in 2017.
Warne felt Cummins, which is the deputy captain at this time, must be named the captain immediately in front of the ash series.
“For me, the time is right to make Captain Pat Cummins, something I thought even before the Friday event took place,” Warne wrote in Australia the Daily Telegraph.
The 28-year-old Cummins, who made his debut in 2011 had grapped 164 in 32 tests.
“Posters Boy, respected and loved around the world, Pat Cummins must now be named Captain, and Matt Wade, Josh Inglis or Alex Carey must get their chance to come and play the Paine role in the test team.” Warne chose that Inglis was a “360 degree player” and would be the right man for the work of Wicket.
“Inglis gets my voice.
He has a fine fine hand behind the stump, he’s a 360 degree player with a bat and out of three grade one hundreds of last season for Western Australia,” he wrote.
“He is a great team that I saw directly at the London spirit this year.
He is 26 years old.” The former foot spinner also empathy with Paine, said he was just human and should not be judged.
“Sad to see what happened on Friday on many levels and circumstances in which the team was forced to retreat.
I really felt it, what he experienced, and what his family did,” Warnne wrote.
“I did not judge him about this incident.
Just because the team in the public does not mean he won’t make a mistake.
Sportspersons are humans, they have feelings.
Let’s stop our judgment.
It’s not our place to do it.” Abu began with the first test in Brisbane on December 8.
