Melbourne: Spin Legend Shane Warnne has supported Pat Cummins to become the next Australian test captain, said the time is right for Spearhead Pace to take over the role of the Paine team.
Paine got out of the post on Friday after being investigated by Cricket Australia (CA) to send an explicit message to a female colleague in 2017.
Warne felt Cummins, which is the deputy captain at this time, must be named the captain immediately in front of the ash series.
“For me, the time is right to make Captain Pat Cummins, something I thought even before the Friday event took place,” Warne wrote in Australia the Daily Telegraph.
The 28-year-old Cummins, who made his debut in 2011 had grapped 164 in 32 tests.
