Dharwad: The election of the body of the local urban or Panchayats is the first political steps, and the success of a candidate here often determines the path of a person’s politics.
Although reaching the Mayor’s post in the case of a local urban body or the president in Pancayat is considered only one step from entering the legislature of the state, the Mayor of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) appears to turn into a cul-de-sac, with no one who occupies the office after succeeding Win the election.
In fact, only three corporator in Council HDMC lucky win Assembly elections – SR Mory and Am Hindasgeri of Ashok Katwe of the Congress and the BJP.
More, who served as the Canporator in 1972, not only won the assembly election in 1983, ’89 and 2004 – he even served as a minister under the main ministers S Bangarappa and Dharam Singh.
Hindasigeri, who served as Canporator in 1983, was chosen as a Assembly in 1985 and ’89, and served as a minister of cabinet twice.
He was also chosen as MLC.
Ashok Katwe, who rose to become deputy mayor of HDMC in the 1980s, just lucky with fellow Congress.
Even though he managed to enter the Assembly in 1994, he was defeated in the 1999 poll.
Since it was founded in 1962, Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has 39 Mayors – senior advocate Giriyappa R Nalawadi is the first to occupy the Mayor’s post.
Of the 39 people holding the position of Mayor, six did not succeed in opposing the election to the Assembly.
Among them, is the former Main Minister of Jagadish Shettar SS Shettar, who served as Mayor in 1975.
SS Shettar did not succeed in fighting for the Hubli City Constituency in 1985.
Im Javali, Patil Patil, Hanumanth V Dambal and Anilkumar Patil Other Mayors who tried, and failed to enter the assembly.
In fact, there are even examples in which Corporators who have established their views on entering the Assembly have refused the Mayor’s post.
