BELOGIVAVI: Tiger reserves in Uttara Kannada Regency have found among the top five in this country for the percentage of forest cover among tiger reserves.
Times have 92.45% of forest cover and four tigers, according to new forest reports.
These Tiger Reserve times were in fourth place, following using Arunachal Pradesh with 96.83% of forest cover, Achanakmar in Chhattisgarh with 95.63% and Simplipal in Odisha with 94.17% of forest cover.
Dampa in Mizoram with a cover of 92.05% is in fifth place.
However, the assessment between 2011 and 2021 showed that the forest cover loss was 13.14 SQKM.
The forest area in 2011 was 1,318.36 SQKM and in the 2021 report had dropped to 1.305.22 SQKM.
The total area of the tiger reserve is 1,411.75 SQKM.
Forest cover in Bandipur, Bhadra, Nagarahole and B Hills Hills Tiger Reserve 53.53%, 74.45%.
75.43% and 86.21%, respectively.
Bhadra has lost forest cover of 53.05 SQKM, while bandipur has lost 7.39 SQKM.
B Hills have obtained forest cover of 16.77 SQKM and Nagarahole have lost 42.38 SQKM.
Times have a very dense 273.74 sqkm forest, 962.33 SQKM forest which is quite dense and 69.15 SQKM from open forest.
It should be noted that the Anshi-Dandeli-Sharavathi Valley Tiger corridor is one of the thickest corridors in terms of forest cover.
The total forest cover in the corridor was 93.67% in 405.44 SQKM, among the top three among the forest corridors throughout the country.
The highest number of tigers in this country is in Nagarahole which has 127 big cats, followed by Bandipur at 126.
A conservationist said that even though the data showed four tigers at times in 2018, currently the population has surged to at least 15.
Rahul Bavaji, a conservationist said Decreasing forest cover is very unfortunate.
He said the forestry department must ensure the protection of meadows in the forest that will help the tiger population.
