Ahmedabad: For Joseph Monish Patel, the Oscar nomination which he obtained could be an American dream of measuring his own redemption.
As a child grew in the US, Patel mercilessly mocked because his Indian name was looking at.
But now, as one of the three producers of “Summer Soul”, Patel has the opportunity for an honor whose name is respected by film lovers throughout the world.
“Soul Summer” has been nominated for Oscar in the documentary category.
Patel’s work has won more than 20 awards, including Critics’s choice of documentary awards in the US.
When the film was selected for the prestigious Academy Awards, Patel tweeted happily: “Can it be the first patel to bring home Oscar!” Patel, 50, told Toi that it was a very emotional moment and he cried for two hours after hearing the news.
“This nomination is ODE for my parents and my community,” he said.
“This is the peak of a lot of hard work.
But again, it really starts with my parents to understand what I want to do to make a living,” Patel said.

“My father came from Vadodara and my mother from Anand.
My father came to the US in 1971 to attend a technical college in Massachusetts,” Patel said.

“My parents want me to be a doctor, or an engineer, or an analyst,” Patel said.
“But since childhood, I was interested in music.

I have a day job in Silicon Valley and write articles at night.” Patel said that when he came out of conventional work in 1999, his father did not approve it.
