Rita Bahuguna has held the Mayor of Allahabad’s post from 1995-2000.
He is a former Vice President of the National Women’s Council.

He was elected a member of the Legislative Assembly from Lucknow Cantonment in the 2012 State Election.
He was contested for the 2014 selection of Sabha from Lucknow but was lost.
He joined BJP on October 20, 2016 in front of former BJP President Amit Shah after spending 24 years in Congress and was elected again from Lucknow Cantt from BJP.
He was later revealed by the party for the selection of Lok Sabha in 2019 from Allahabad because he had to empty the chair.
