Karwar: Minister of Manpower Shivaram Hebbar, who is a minister responsible for Uttara Kannada, on Monday states that the district must have a casino to attract tourists and residents and the media must support this step.
Advanced media after the Karnataka Rajyotsava program, said Hebbar, even though the district has great potential for tourism development, it has not been explored by the government sequential.
Goa neighbors, smaller in the area and population compared to Uttara Kannada, attract a large number of tourists worldwide.
“The main source of income from the country is tourism and we must be in a position to compete with them,” he said.
With an airport that comes near Karwar, the coastal area of Uttara Kannada can attract a large number of tourists from various countries.
So, preparing a casino in the sea it’s important, he said.
It can be done with private participation.
Hotels, water adventures, forest and water tourism can be increased, he said.
“Someone can’t stop people from spending money in the casino.
People from Uttara Kannada and other districts go to Goa and spend it in the casino.
So, if we set the casino here, money will be spent in our district,” he said.
When reminding that BJP has opposed when the previous Congress government has proposed a casino in the Arab Sea, outside Karwar, Hebbar said that it was true.
But the attitude continues to change with time, he added in the environmental name.
“Development, generation of employment, tourism, and environmental preservation must go hand in hand,” he said.
