Basavaraj Meeshibellagavi: A Wild Dog Package deviates the herd of domestic animals in the early hours of Tuesday, killing more than 50 goats and 10 sheep.
The incident occurred in the village of Hulagabali in Athani Taluk.
The Gory incident, Sakaram K who was 65 years old said that around 2am, when he and his family members were sleeping, around 20-25 dogs entered the warehouse where 150 animals including protected goats and sheep, and launched attacks.
Sakaram woke up heard loud shouts against animals.
“I was surprised to see some of them running the peoples and some writhing in pain lying in the middle of the pool of blood.
We chose several sticks to chase dogs.
We even had to defeat two dogs to death because of self-defense,” he said.
Sakaram claims that 50 goats and 10 dead sheep, large losses that cost around Rs 6 lakh.
He was looking for compensation from the government and appealed to Gram Panchayat to end the threat of dogs in the village.
After flooding, dogs, if they do not inhabit the agricultural land on the outskirts, now roam in the village to find food.
Since the last 20 days, dogs survive near the pile of rubbish, hid into a tin warehouse at night to eat goats and sheep.
Athani Tahsildar Dundappa Komar said, “When I visited the scene, I saw 25 dead animals.
Farmers can claim compensation for the loss.
I have asked for the Taluk Veterinary Officer to send a report to the Department of Livestock.
