Yadgir / Batawayavi: In some North Karnataka villages, residents consume alcohol in an effort to avoid vaccination.
It hampered the efforts of officials who worked to meet the target of 100% at Gram Panchayats.
In many Yadgir District villages, at least 5-10 people have drunk liquor before Asha workers and health staff there.
“Do you know what happens if you vaccinate me when I’m drunk?” A village resident was reported to be told health staff in Honagera Village.
Health workers said he had reached for the past week and every day, he appeared for the same reason.
“How can we meet our target if people don’t work together?” He asked.
Yadgir District Health Officer Dr.
Indumeni Patil said in every gram of Panchayat, health workers have reported five to six cases like that.
When he went to a hamlet for a reality, he found five drunken men using liquor as a reason not to take a vaccine.
The health department now plans to notify the wine shop to sell liquor only to those who can prove they are vaccinated.
“We will do our best to vaccinate all in the village,” he said.
In the village of Besagavi, health workers face similar problems.
Dr.
Sashikanth District Health Officer Muniyla said: “A few months ago, some people use liquor reasons not to get stuck, but we can convince them.” In the Raichur district, daily wage workers said the side effects of vaccination such as fever prevented it to work for a week.
A health official said the workers said they were unable to lose their daily income only to vaccinate.
