Kalaburagi: Yadgir, if not, district retreat, has appeared up in the state of inland fish production.
This was followed by Vijayapura and Dakshina Kannada.
Fishing on the ground is only fishing in ponds, lakes, and flow.
The district has exceeded the related targets set by the state government.
Yadgir has produced 7,416 tons of fish – as opposed to 6,904 tons targeted – three months before March, when the period was set for the target ended.
The district has 250 lakes, which 175 is spread in 100 hectares, while 75 is spread in 100 hectares.
Apart from the lake, Yadgir also boasts two major rivers – Bheema and Krishna – who have helped the district reach the target.
500 farmers in the district were involved in fish production.
While many of them have their own pools, some utilize lakes and rivers.
Shrinivas Kulkarni, Deputy Director of Fisheries, Yadgir Regency, told TOI there was great potential in the district to produce fish, thanks to the lake and river.
“Fish produced in Yadgir District are being exported to Hyderabad and abroad,” he said.
