Dubai: International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday announced that Roy Kaia Zimbabwe had been suspended from bowling in international cricket with direct effects after independent assessment found illegal bowling actions.
However, the 29-year-old off-spinner can, a bowl in domestic cricket after previous permission from Zimbabwe Cricket.
“In accordance with Article 11.1 of the ICC regulation for the review of the Bowler reported by suspicion of illegal bowling actions, Kaia’s international suspension will also be recognized and enforced by all national cricket federations for domestic cricket events played in their own jurisdiction,” ICC said in a statement.
“However, according to Article 11.5 of the regulations and with the approval of Zimbabwe Cricket, Kaia may be able to bowl in the events of the domestic cricket played under their auspices,” he added.
Kaia was reported by the action of bowling suspected during the one-time test against Bangladesh playing in Harare from July 7-11.
The Apex Body of Cricket said the footage of the Bowling Action Panel expert, because the assessment at the ICC accredited center was not possible because of the various restrictions produced from Covid-19.
The panel concluded that the delivery exceeded the 15 degree tolerance level which was permitted under the regulations and the bowling action was illegal.
“Kaia can submit a re-assessment after modifying the bowling action in accordance with the ICC regulation,” ICC said.
