Bengaluru: Eight women and two men, part of the international gold smuggling ring, intercepted by Detuth Customs at Kempegowda International Airport last weekend.
They landed from Sri Lanka with gold, weighing more than 3kg and worth Rs 1.5 Crore.
The gang has planned to submit booty to several legs in the city.
According to sources in the customs air intelligence unit, around 150 passengers arrived in Bengaluru on Saturday night at Sri Lanka Airlines flight UL 171 from the bandaraike international airport like Colombo.
When they were examined at the terminal, the absence of customsic paying attention to a group of women acting in a suspicious and intercepted way to be questioned.
“Double carrying gold in the form of pasta in the rectum.
Two legs of men who fly with the same flights are also nabbed.
10 passengers are questioned and they recognize their involvement in gold smuggling from Sri Lanka,” said an investigative officer.
Gold in the form of pasta was taken and weighed to determine that the gang brought around 3 kg of precious metals.
Probes are ongoing to ensure group links in Bengaluru.
