Mangaluru: Mangaluru Police confiscated nearly 1,400 kg of low-grade explosives worth Rs 1.1 lakh which was illegally stored in the building room at Azizuddin Road in Bunder at the North Police limit Mangaluru.
The defendant, Anand Gatty, 50, was arrested and produced before a court that lived in police custody.
Police have restored white sulfur powder (400kg), potassium nitrate (350kg), barium nitrate (50kg), potassium chlorite (395kg), aluminum powder of various classes (260kg), 0.22 air gun pellets (161 boxes each) , Lead ball (30kg) and charcoal (240kg).
Scale weighing and scales have also been confiscated.
City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said easy access to illegal substances can increase their threat to be misused.
Mangaluru is a sensitive area close to Naxal prone areas.
The city police have maintained a close watch, especially after people were killed on stone mine sites in Chikkaballapur and similar explosions on the Shivamogga Mine site earlier this year.
It is based that RAID is based on a tip-off received by DCP (law and command) Hariram Shankar.
A dog was reported to be shot dead with a car smile suspected at close range in Shivabhag last month.
After this, the police tried to find a source of air gun pellets used for crime.
Restored explosives are thought to be used in the cracker industry, mine, fishing and wells.
The source said the material was being stored without permission in a commercial-housing building where several families lived and pets moved.
Sources of these substances are being investigated.
