MySuru: Lake is considered a rural economic lifelon.
However, many lakes are now dried or interrupted.
Under the initiative of ‘Nammura Namma Kere’, one of the lakes like that, which was not filled over the past two decades, has been preserved in Karakanahalli Village located in the suburbs by SKRDP BC Trust and groups formed by villagers.
‘Karakakanahalli Chikkakere’ from Karakanahalli Village is spread in 4.3 hectares of land.
It was preserved with an estimated cost of Rs 5.7 lakh.
About 150 families now benefit from this lake.
More than 20 drilling wells, dry, are now refilled because lake water increases the water table in the village.
This lake is now an important source of drinking water for livestock too.
On Thursday, Dr.
Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari, Shri Kshetra Dharmastala offers Bagina to the lake.
Speaking on that occasion, Higgade informed that the following year, 166 lakes would be preserved throughout the state.
“We launched the Kere Sanjeevini program in collaboration with the state government,” he said.
“Today’s generation has forgotten the importance of lake conservation.
People see the government for everything.
It’s not true,” he said.
“Lake is a living line for humans other than livestock and other living things.
The water crisis now influences humanity everywhere.
We need to save the lake to ensure that there will be no water crisis,” he added.
Janajruthi President of the Vedike District Handanahalli Somashekar led the event.
Young Chairperson HV Rajeev, ZP Former President of K Marigowda, SKRDP BC Trust CEO LH Manjunath, V Vijaykumar Naganala, and others were present.
