Bengaluru: More than two weeks after he was allocated a tourism and environmental & ecological portfolio, Anand Singh finally assumed as minister on Tuesday.
He was angry because he was not given a higher role in the government, and had taken a guarantee of the Chairman of the Minister of Bumavaraj Bommai and BJP President Nalin Kumar Kateel to calm him down.
They told him that they would see his request for portfolio changes.
Singh met Kateel in the party office.
Bommai chatted for one hour with Singh, asking him to take responsibility assigned and patient, according to people in BJP.
Bommai was reported to say he would discuss this issue with the party’s leadership when he visited Delhi this week.
Singh also met former lead Minister BS Yediyurappa.
“I have brought my problem to notice the Minister of Chief, President of the State Party and Yediyurappa.
They assured me that my appeal would be considered and the solution would be found.
I have decided to take over,” Singh said.
In the chosen portfolio, he told reporters: “I have spoken to people who care about what my attraction is.
I can’t discuss this problem with you.” Bommai distributed a portfolio on August 7.
Singh, who seemed to hope to be appointed as Minister of Energy or PWD, registered his displeasure by not using the official vehicle and turned off the MLA office in Hospet on August 11.
He hinted at resigning before BOMMAI and Revenue Minister R Ashoka reached out to him.
MLA four times, Singh is among the 17 legislators who have come out of the Congress-JD coalition and join BJP in 2019.
