Bengaluru: The number of children under the age of 10 years infected by Covid-19 has increased sharply this month with only 16 days reported 15 times more cases than overall December.
The data analysis of state war space showed 5,726 children in this age group were tested positively between January 1 and January 16.
In other words, more than 350 children are infected every January, compared to 376 in December and 332 in November.
Cases in January so far more than the total reported cases from September to December 2021.
The last monthly case in this category is more than 5,000 is June 2021, while May and April that year saw more than 20,000 cases.
In late May, the state had 77,000 cases in this age group which had surged to 94,340 at the end of December.

Detailed data in detail shows that while the 0-10 group has more than 1 case of lakh, the next 10-19 group has more than 2.6 lakh patients.

Health officials said almost all of these cases were light and the increase in infection among children was in line with the overall increase in the case in the past two weeks.
Karnataka has added 2.1 cases of lakh in January so far at the level of 13,296 a day.
