Bengaluru: Two women from the Whitefield region were cheated by criminals who were friends with social media recently.
While a woman falls for offers ‘expensive gifts’, other money missing while trying to ‘help’ relatives of her online friends.
Suma (name changed), 30, from the layout of Shantiniketan near Whitefield posted his profile on the matrimonial site on March 24.
Someone who identified himself when Siddartha Prakash expressed his interest in marrying him.
Both share their cellphone numbers and come into constant.
On April 4, Prakash was looking for aid by Suma claiming his relatives had fallen ill in India.
He believed him and transferred Rs 7.7 lakh to the bank account he had shared with him.
After that Prakash went to be confront and Suma realized that he had been cheated.
CEN Whitefield’s crime police have taken a case.
In another incident, 31-year-old Rama (name changed) lost Rs 5 Lakh when trying to collect a gift sent by a social media friend who identified himself as Jordan milot.
In a few weeks they became friends, milot, who claimed to be a pilot with airlines in France, told Rama, he had sent a diamond ring, two i-telephones and $ 50,000.
He received a call on June 15, and the caller introduced himself as Anita, a customs official at Delhi airport and asked him to pay various costs to claim gifts sent by milots.
Rama transferred Rs 5 Lakh to several bank accounts provided by Anita.
When the prize never arrived, Rama filed a complaint of the police.
