Bengaluru: Karnataka on Friday saw 23 Omicron cases, taking the total country to 66.
Of the new omikron patients, 19 had the history of international travel – seven each from US and Africa, three of Europe and two from Europe.
Four breaks don’t have a travel history, but one of them is a contact of a patient who has traveled from Nigeria.
All cases are tested in Bengaluru.
However, two patients left after giving a sample.
A 28-year-old man went to Andhra Pradesh after undergoing a test at the primary health center on December 26.
In the second case, a 25-year-old swab sample was taken at Kempegowda International Airport on December 25 before he left for Bihar.
Among newly infected patients, six were children, including a 12-year-old daughter of a 47-year-old man traveling from Nigeria on December 11.
The man on his arrival had been tested negatively, but changed positively on December 20 follow-up tests.
His two contacts, including girls, are positive.
The youngest of the 23 new cases was a two-year-old boy, who traveled from Tanzania on December 19.
The boy, a 33-year-old mother and sister (10) had been tested negatively to Covid on arrival and then found positive covid in a private lab on December 23.
The three have been infected with the omicron variant.
Incidentally, a 45-year-old housewife from Mahadevapura who has no history or no contact from an international traveler has been found to be infected by Omicron.
“We don’t know who he is contracted by Omicron.
Contact search has been done and all his family members have changed negatively,” said a BBMP officer.
The mother-child duo, aged 10 and 35 and South African citizens to Mangaluru, have been detected by Omicron.
They arrived in Bengaluru on December 25 and were tested positively and shifted to the hospital.
Except for five children and a West Asian traveler whose vaccination status is unknown, the rest are all vaccinated.
Bengaluru has reported 47 omicron infections.
