26 National Myanmar held in Guwahati with ‘Fake Documents’

Guwahati: The police on Sunday arrested 26 citizens of Myanmar, including 10 women, from a Guwahati-based hotel for allegedly traveling in the country illegally with fake documents.
Police said all those arrested, including several teenagers, came from the Falam district at State Chin Myanmar.
According to the police, a citizen Myanmar has checked into a hotel after arriving from Mizoram Capital, Aizawl, in two SUVs around 7 in the morning.
They headed to Delhi to take part in the religious program there.
Following a tip-off, the police swung in action and found alleged fake documents.
“Based on source information, the attack was carried out in Kamreta City-based Lodge (Muana Run) in Rehabari here and 26 suspects were arrested.
After being interrogated, it was found that they were citizens of Chin State of Myanmar and were on our way to Delhi to study the Bible (theology) .
We found Indian documents forged as Aadhaar and voter cards, made in Mizoram, from their ownership, “The Assam police statement issued on Sunday night reading.
A senior police officer said they were not Rohingya and were willing to come here to go to Delhi to attend religious learning sessions.
“Those who are arrested will be produced in front of the court here on Monday,” the officer said.
Myanmar citizen was arrested under Section 468 (forgery) IPC, the relevant part of ACT, 1946, passport (entered India) Act, 1920 and passport (entered India) rule 1950.
