Mangaluru: A total of 28 students in two colleges in the city were sent back home on Wednesday because they were wearing a hijab to class.
Police Commissioner Mangaluru N Shashi Kumar told reporters here that in four other universities, students who came to the class wearing hijab were allowed in the classroom after removing their scarves.
The class runs smoothly at all colleges, which reopened today after a week’s vacation was stated by the government after a problem on several campuses on the hijab problem.
The Commissioner said the hijab problem appeared at six colleges that day.
The authorities in Pompei PU College sent back 26 hijab students dressed after telling them about the orders of the High Court, while in Dairand Pai Degree College, two students wearing a headscarf sent to the house.
In four other universities, students dressed in headscarves were permitted in the class after removing their headscarves, said Shashi Kumar, added, there were no cases of any student who wore a turmeric scarf on the campuses.
