Bengaluru: About 30,000 people benefit from the old pension scheme without applying it, thanks to the initiative of the state government ‘suo-motu’ where the state identifies people who are eligible for retirement using Aadhaar and sanctions data.
This scheme was launched in February 2021 and since then 28,848 people have been approved by the old retirement.
Before this, it was held at Udupi and Magadi Taluks.
“This is the first program throughout the country.
After seeing parents, especially elderly women, struggling to register for retirement, we decided to bring this program.
I am happy so many people benefit.
We extend this initiative for all guarantee schemes Social, “said Revenue Minister R Ashoka.
The state government provides retirement for elderly people from the BPL family.
While people between 64 and 65 will get a monthly retirement of Rs 600, above 65 years will get Rs 1,000-1,200 under the Indira Gandhi’s old retirement scheme and Sandhya Surakha scheme.
Overall, there are more than 58 lakh beneficiaries like that.
According to Satish Kumar, Director of the Social Security Scheme, E-Governance Department, which has a Aadhaar database from all BPL families, will send details of people who have crossed 60 years but are not included in the retirement scheme to the income department every second week.
The details will then be sent to Gram Panchayats and the local body.
In addition to inclusion of Suo Motu, beneficiaries can also send their own applications through Gram Panchayats and Kacheris Tones and Atal Janasnehi Kendras.
The success of this initiative has made the department expand it to other retirement schemes too.
“We plan to bring a retirement scheme and Mythri widow, which provides retirement for transgender people, with this initiative.
We are working on it,” he said.
The department also began annual physical verification of beneficiaries for social security schemes since February and until now it has canceled the retirement of 71,463 false beneficiaries.
