Bengaluru: The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), a group of more than 1,800 leading researchers promoted excellence in the science of life in Europe and its surroundings, said eight group leaders chosen as global researchers would join their ranks from January.
Four of them – Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Sandeep Eswarappa (Department of Biochemistry), Srimonta Gayen and Ramray Bhat (Department of Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics), and Hiyaa Ghosh from Bengaluru Biology Center – originated from Bengaluru.
They will become members of the Global Embo Investigator network for four years and will have access to funds for many network activities and training.
Four other researchers were Brandon Morinaka from the National University of Singapore, Wee-Wei Tee of the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, Singapore, Hsu-Wen Chao from the Medical University of Taipei and Ming-Jung Lin from Academia Sinica, Taipei.
While Eswarappa’s research focused on “translation, the process of making protein from Messenger Ras by describing genetic code,” the Bhat project focuses on “understanding the mechanism where breast cancer and ovarians experience metastasis”.
The Gayen Group will strive to better understand the mechanism of epigenetic regulation of gene expression during the mouse mouse and human development, through the X chromosomal inactivation lens, genome printing and a random expression of autosom moniallelic genes.
The Hiyaa project will be in homeostasis regulations (the independent regulator process where biological systems tend to maintain stability) and inflammation of neuro in the mammalian brain.
“Embo Global Investigator Network supports the lives of scientists who have a very good track record and have become group leaders for at least six years.
They must conduct research in the Country of Emc’s associations (currently India and Singapore) or in the country or the area covered by the Cooperation Agreement with the Embc (currently Chile and Taiwan), “IISC said in a note.
The Global Investigator Network was launched in 2019 and the level of success of the applicant this year was 21%, the Embo said.
The deadline for the next application is June 1, 2022.
