Guwahati: Overall 47 Omicron cases were confirmed in Assam on Monday after the Institute of Science and Technology northeast submitted a confirmation report on alleged cases after the original genome sequencing.
In addition to travelers from Saudi Arabia and the US, new variants have been found in CRPF camps in Dhemaji and in community searches in Jorhat, sources related to the testing process to TOI.
Health officials at Assam said Omicron had spread far beyond Guwahati, which was proven in the latest reports.
Until Sunday, nine patients infected with omicrons were detected in the state, including three are international travelers.
The rest are Assam residents who some of them come into contact with covid’s positive foreign travelers.
Two have the history of travel between countries.
With confirmation Monday, a total of 56 Omicron cases have been detected in the state.
Of the 47 new cases confirmed, 21 is an international traveler, but the majority have lived in the state or have a history of travel between countries.
“Most tourists from the US, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are in the Positive Omicron case list, whose reports have been confirmed on Monday.
But the spread of Omicron in the community has been confirmed after several people were tested positive for Omicron in Jorhat.
Many of those who live in the district Just Jorhat, “said the inside in the State Health Department.
The first Omicron case of Assam was detected in Meghalaya’s neighbor where a 13-year-old boy had tested positively for the new Covid variant.
He has no history of travel outside India.
The whole genome sequencing, which is needed to be done in a sophisticated laboratory, is a must to confirm the existence of Omicron.
However, at ICMR-RMRC, Lahowal in Dibrugarh, a total of 309 cases of omicrons were detected to date.
The kit used in the test at ICMR-RMRC was recently developed by a team of scientists from ICMR-RMRC which can detect omicron variants in just two hours.
The State Health Department has not recognized an investigation into the new ICMR-RMRC kit which is considered a partial test process to detect Omicron.
“Sequencing all genomes are expensive affairs.
The actual amount of the Omicron case will be much higher than 56 whether there is a genome sequencing more samples,” said a senior health department official.
