Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Police on Monday arrested five people in connection with the murder of a 20-year-old young man during a Dasara party in a cottage in the Mahafer circle (Pumpwell) in the city on the day of art.
City Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that on the occasion of Dasara, a group of friends had a party at the lodge near Mud Pumpwell.
They have booked a room at the lodge on October 14.
The compromise meeting regarding the old fight during the party ended in a battle that leads to Dhanush’s death, 20, a resident of Pachanady, which is Saturday.
The arrest is Joyson, 21, a resident of Suratshalk, Presheth D, 24, from Jeppu Bappal, Karthik, 21, from Vamanjoor, Prajwal, 22, and Durgesh, 22, Pachanady residents, Commissioner said.
Shashi Kumar said the battle was originally broken between Joyson and Dhanush.
In anger, Dhanush was allegedly attacked with sharp weapons on his chest by Joyson.
Dhanush, who suffered an injury, rushed to a private hospital, where he was declared dead.
Of the five captured, three have a criminal background with cases that enroll in various police stations in connection with riots, attacks, NDPS actions, among others.
While Preheth has nine cases, Joyson and Karthik each have two cases at various police stations.
None of them have a permanent job and do strange work to make a living.
They will experience a medical test to ascertain whether they have consumed drugs when the incident happened, he added.
Kankanady City Police has registered cases under Section 143, 147, 148, 323, 302 and 149 IPC for murder and other fees.
