Bengaluru: The Union Minister for Social Justice and the Empowerment of Thaawarchand Gehlot was appointed as the 19th Governor of Karnataka on Tuesday, in the midst of many promises of the governor in front of the expansion of the United Cabinet.
Gehlot, 73, a member of Rajya Saba twice from MP, is among the eight new governors appointed by President of RAM Nath Kovind.
Gehlot will replace Vajubhai R Vala, who has been in the office since September 2014, the longest term after Khurshed Alam Khan.
His experience will help declare: CMGEHLOT, who served as Minister in the PM Modi Cabinet after being appointed for the second time in 2019, will replace Vajubhai Vala, who has been in the office since September 2014, the longest working period after Khurshed Alam Khan.
Gehlot is likely to charge next week.
The clock after the Governor was appointed, Gehlot said he would resign from the three positions he held now – in the cabinet, Rajya Sabha, and BJP Parliament – on Wednesday.
“The President (RAM Nath) Kovind and PM (Narendra) Modi has shown faith in me and appointed me Governor Karnataka.
I will fulfill their expectations and do my work faithfully.
I will try to solve the problem within the constitutional limit and with discussion,” said Gehlot.
With Karnataka scheduled to conduct a poll in 2023, the role of Gehlot assumes significance because the state has experienced a hung assembly, the coalition government and political instability in general elections.
Gehlot’s knowledge of Karnataka’s political landscape, because the Secretary General was responsible for BJP in the state in mid-2000, is expected to be useful.
CM Tweet: “The State will benefit from Gehlotji’s long experience in public life and commitment to social justice.” The governor came out Vala, whose term of office was extended after ending in 2019, had an important task after the verdict hung in the 2018 assembly poll triggered a high-voltage political manue in the state.
