Bengaluru: Nine people have died and three lost in Karnataka so far, with heavy rain beating several parts of coastal areas, malnad and north-interial state, causing situations and landslides such as floods, officials said on Saturday.
31,360 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas, while 22,417 people took refuge in 237 aid camps that have been opened by the government.
According to data distributed by the state disaster management authority, 283 villages in 45 Taluk had been tied by rain, affecting the population of 36,498.
Among the deaths reported since July 22, four came from the Uttara Kannada district, two of the BELOGIVAs and each of Chikkamagaluru, Dharwad and Kodagu.
Landslides have occurred in seven locations in Uttara Kannada, four in Chikkamagaluru, three in Kodagu and each in the Shivamogga District and Hassan.
More than 2,600 houses have been damaged, and 78 animals have died in the incident related to rain.
It is estimated that 58,961 hectares of agricultural crops and 1,962 hectares of horticultural plants have been damaged by rain and floods, which have also damaged the road as high as 555 km, more than 3,500 electricity poles and 342 transformers.
