Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanaagara Pulike (BBMP) on Friday ordered the closure of meat shops in Bengaluru on August 30 on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami.
A command issued by BBMP in Kannada, said, “The meat shop will remain closed on Monday, August 30 on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami.” BBMP was also early, on that occasion, issued public notifications that ordered the ban on animal slaughter and meat sales.
In Janmashtami, believers observe the day while staying fast and praying at temples.
It is believed that Shri Krishna, who is the eighth avatar of Lord Wisnu, was born on earth to restore peace and dharma in Dwapar Yuga.
His birth was celebrated as Janmashtami, who was also known as Gokulashatami.
Janmashtami is usually observed on eighth day or Ashtami from Krishna Paksha in the month of Shravan or Bhadrapad.
