Bengaluru: The old policy proposed using the roof of the government building to produce solar energy is set to be revived.
Energy Minister V Sunil Kumar said his department was exploring the possibility of using the roof of Vidhana Soudha, Vikasa Soudha and Ms Building in Bengaluru for the purpose.
Responding to the questions raised by the MLC C congress C Narayanwamy, Kumar said the government had set a target to produce 372 megawatts (MW) solar power at the end of 2021-22 fiscal.
“If the sun allows, we will prepare solar power units on private property and the government.
We have assigned a feasibility study for all Taluk and Zilla Pancayat buildings,” Kumar said.
He added that the policy would be extended to the secretariat building as well.
“We have asked Bescom to prepare reports for feasibility for buildings.
After completion, we will arrange a roof solar power system at the secretariat too,” Minister said.
