Chandigarh: Minister of Manohar Minister Haryana Lal Khattar on Wednesday said the state government has decided to provide subsidies about the purchase of electronic vehicles to encourage its use.
Khattar, ministers and BJP Mlaas rode a bicycle from the official residence of the Main Minister to the Haryana Civil Secretariat to mark the World Car free day Wednesday.
The civil secretariat is almost 2 km from Khattar’s official residence in Chandigarh.
He had patted the distance on several occasions in the past too.
Khattar, according to an official statement, said that in an effort to encourage the use of electric vehicles, the state government has decided to provide subsidies on their purchases.
Speaking to reporters on that occasion, the minister’s chairman appealed to people to insist as often as possible, by saying it was an affordable and environmentally friendly travel mode.
The minister’s chairman then drove an electronic vehicle from the secretariat back to his official residence.
Previously, he inaugurated an exhibition of awareness on electronic vehicles held at the civil secretariat here on the occasion of world car free days.
People consider vehicles as status symbols so that employees and officers use vehicles as the main mode traveling even when they remain close to their office, the minister said.
On that occasion, Khattar asked people to take an appointment to adopt a car pooling system or to travel by foot or cycling to the nearest places.
The Chief Minister also said that the CNG Plying Bus has been driven in Gurgaon until now to curb pollution, but now the emphasis will also be placed on running e-bus and e-autos there too.
Among those who cycled from the residence of the minister of minister to the Civil Secretariat included Kanwar Pal education minister, Minister of Transportation Mool Chand Sharma, Minister of Agriculture J P Dalal and several MLA.
