DIPHU / NAGONON: Heroin worth RS 8 Crore was confiscated in Nagaon and Carbi Anglong Assam with one of the suspected drug guidelines injured in fire exchanges with the police, officials said on Tuesday.
Acting on the tip-off that three-four people were smuggling drugs through the road bazaar on Sunday in the district of Anglong on Monday, the police intercepted the alleged mobile seller, they said.
They allegedly opened fire on the police who responded in “self defense”, said a police officer.
After a shootout, the police found the bullet of injured people lying on the ground with a 7.65 mm gun and a backpack beside him, he said.
Fifty cases of soap with 626 GM heroin, worth Rs 6 Crore, and 20 ammunition found in the bag, he added.
The search was to catch the rest, the officer said, adding that two people fled towards Nagaland.
In the Nagaon district, someone was arrested with 303 GM Heroin, worth around Rs 2 Crore, police said.
The arrest was made of Nonoi in the Nagaon police station area after police intercepted his car, they said.
The person who was arrested, was identified as RK Hopingson, was the most sought-after drug dealer of the Senapati district in Manipur, they claimed.
He transports medicines from being crowned to Nagaon, police said.
