Chandigarh: a one-day surge in 12 Covid patients reported on Monday.
Since July 3, when 18 cases were confirmed in a day, the daily case was dipped and reached an average of five and six cases a day.
The surge comes at the time of 23 cases of Omicron have been reported in this country.
As many as 106 cases have been reported since November 15 while in the last six days, 29 cases were confirmed.
There has been a steady increase in everyday case since two weeks.
Like on Monday, 62 active cases are reported.
The city has two returns from South Africa and the genome sequencing test report is awaited.
During the past two weeks, testing also increased from 1,200 to around 2,000 a day.
“In the absence of testing a lot, the level of prospective is lacking.
The increase in testing is one of the best strategies to regulate the level of transmission,” said a public health expert.
He added, “From August and so on, there were three to five cases of daily without a sudden daily surge.
However, since the end of November, there were as many as eight and nine cases.” Even though there is nothing clear about the severity of omicron variants, para Doctors feel they will spread in the community regardless of vaccination.
Therefore social distance, prevention of closed space meetings and wearing masks is important.
“Those who have been infected anytime throughout the year and have been vaccinated less vulnerable to the severity of infection or even infection.
Natural infections provide long-term protection.
So those who have not been infected up to now must be more careful,” said a public health expert.
