Bengaluru: With only a day left for the general election of up to 25 chairs of the legislative council, the BJP-JD (s) alliance edged into reality in at least six seats.
This came after JD (s) Head of the Legislative Party HD Kumaraswamy said the bond would be decided at the local level.
The BJP is in power, which is under pressure to win 12-13 seats to get a majority in the upper house, has been seeking support from the regional party in six seats, where he faces a difficult contest against the Congress, a source said.
While the party is sure to win at least eight seats without ruffling feathers, including five in the double member segment where the congress is fighting, he faces a difficult task in 12 seats where JD is not in the commotion.
According to people in parties, BJP chairs are seeking JD help including Shivamogga, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Raichur, Vijayapura and Bengaluru Urban.
In all this segment, JD (s) does not compete for polls but has a large number of grams of Panchayat and corporate members who can be very important for BJP to win the segment.
In fact, BJP has seduced the former and sit JD (s) legislators in these segments looking for their support for their candidates.
“In the shivamogga rural, former JD, Mla Sharada Pooryanik has strong support in GPS while in Yadgir, the supporters of Naganagouda Kandakur, JD (s) MLA from Gurmitkal, may be important for our victory in Kalaburagi,” said a BJP legislator.
Former Minister and Bidar JD (S) MLA Bandeppa Kashempur claimed BJP and Congress had sought support for their candidates.
“However, given the decision of our side, I have told my workers to support anyone they want and don’t ask them to choose a particular party,” he said.
He said every dictation to choose which could backfire for JD because it might hurt sentiment and one tendency or other GP members loyal to the party.
At the other end, Local Leadership JD decided to support Congress in the segment where the latter has deployed a minority candidate or has a larger Muslim tankbank.
They include Dharwad and Raichur, where the former Navalgund Mla Kona Reddy and sat Sindanur Mla Venkatrao Tamagouda has decided to support the Congress.
Except for six seats Hassan, Tumakuru, Kolar, Mandya, Bengaluru Rural and MySuru, JD (s) Notsbank are ready to be contested in each of the 19 other segments.
“None of our MLA wants to invite problems with ourselves by asking for our GP members and workers to choose certain parties and face their anger during the 2023 polls as money, caste and self-interest playing a big role when there is no party loyalty.
, “Said JD (s) Mla.
