Bengaluru: The police have taken three men into custody because they allegedly damaged the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Bashyam Circle in Sadashivanagar on Friday.
The criminals applying black paint to the statue, located near Sankey Tank, in an effort to create communal disharmony, a police officer said.
The incident was revealed on Saturday morning after the person who passed – by the police who was warned, who cleaned the statue and mobilized additional personnel to thwart a counter-attack.
The police registered firs based on complaints by members of the Kejoyan Maratha Maratha Association (KMWA) Karnataka.
A senior police officer said all DCP was told to protect statues in their area.
More police personnel have been deployed at the KSRTC terminal, where the bus from Maharashtra arrived and left.
