Guwahati: Assam and Meghalaya have agreed to the principle of dividing around 36 SQKM of the disputed land in six places between them in parts that are almost the same as part of their 50 years between them.
Disputes in the remaining six regions of OTEHR, referred to as “complicated,” will be taken for completion in the next phase.
But both countries state that disputes will be limited to only 12 of these fields based on claims made by Meghalaya until 2011 and Meghalaya cannot submit further claims.
Except for Manipur and Tripura, Assam has a border dispute, often violence, with all three other neighboring countries, which was once part of the country.
While disputes arranged to be completed with Arunachal Pradesh, those who have Nagaland and Mizoram remain as stumbling blocks even though the Ministry of Stairs Department of UNI Home Amit Shah’s Direct Intervention.
Assam-Meghalaya proposal will be sent to MHA for approval because the inter-state boundary is the central subject, which must later be approved by the parliament because Meghalaya became the full state in 1972 under the North Eastern region (re-organization) of the law in 1971 and later ratified by legislative paragblies from both countries ..
“Our efforts to complete Border Border Assam-Meghalaya have begun to bring fruits as 6 out of 12 fields of difference have been identified for the resolution in the first phase,” Sarma tweeted.
“Roadmap for peaceful settlement has been prepared based on recommendations 3 regional committees with representatives from the two countries.
We have reached this stage after several cm level talks about this problem,” he said in the second tweet after he gave a briefing to the legislators of all parties here on Tuesday on the agreement between the two countries.
Panels are guided by five historical, ethnic factors, administrative convenience, community will and land offerings – to prepare recommendations.
