Bengaluru: Electric crematorium in the penya will be closed for 75 days from Sunday for repair work.
It comes in the background of the BBMP’s decision to shift from horizontal to a vertical coil installed in the furnace in the crematorium.
In fact, whisk plans to make this change in all its electric cremorium gradually.
A BBMP official said, “The entire furnace must be dismantled and rebuilt.
This is the reason we need 75 days.
The crematorium will be closed from January 30 to April 15.
Important we implement it in a way that is gradually avoiding the inconvenience for the public.” While the PEENYA crematorium was closed, Residents can use facilities at Summanahalli Croematorium or Medi Agrahara.
Other BBMP officials say the problem with horizontal rolls is that they are difficult to change if damage occurs.
“We have to wait almost 72 hours before the coil can be replaced.
With vertical rolls, we need a maximum of three hours before we can replace it.” The time consumed to burn the body remains the same, which is approximately 1-1.5 hours.
“Changes are being implemented to improve furnace efficiency, not speed.
Using vertical rolls, furnaces tend to have fewer interference,” the official said.
