Guwahati: The price of gasoline spiral has forced the population of the capital city of Assam to adopt drastic cost cutting steps.
Premium gasoline prices reached a century in the city on Wednesday while it passed a 100-rupee sign in several other districts on Sunday.
“I was not surprised to know that gasoline prices had crossed Rs 100.
I have made some changes in the fuel budget.
Previously, I used to drive to work, now I use my motorcycle.
We only use the car at that time.
Is an emergency,” A banker, who drives regularly from Maligaon to Bamunimaidan, said.
Pradip Deka, a businessman, said he used his old bike to go to his shop instead of using his motorcycle.
He said using a bicycle had cut its expenses on the fuel and made it physically healthy.
“An ordinary man is unable to buy fuel and oil mustard at the same time.
The price of fuel reached a century while Mustard oil had crossed the double century,” he added.
He said that people have faced severe financial crises because of a pandemic.
“So many people lose their jobs.
Educated young people have begun selling goods on the sidewalk after losing work.
How can someone run the car and buy important items after this?” He asked.
In Guwahati, Petrol Premium is sold for Rs 100.25 per liter on Wednesday while regular gasoline costs Rs 95.98 per liter.
One liter of diesel sells for RS 88.85 in Guwahati, the largest city in northeast India.
The price of gasoline and diesel was carried out 16 times in June and three times in the first seven days of July.
Trends of price increases were published in March and April, just after the election date for five states – Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puduchhery – announced in February.
Instead, prices are reduced three times in March and once in April.
Hiked prices again in May for 16 times.
On July 7, gasoline and diesel saw another increase, amounted to a total of 60 gains from January to 7 July.
