Udupi, Bengaluru Face Surge in Dengue

Bengaluru: In the midst of increasing concerns about the infection transmitted through vectors after the Zika outbreak in neighboring Kerala, Karnataka has reported 1,310 dengue infections until July 13 this year.
Udupi has recorded the highest number of dengue infections in the state (213), followed by the city of Bengaluru (195), Dakagavi (145), Dakshina Kannada (127) and Ballari (69).
The country has also seen 457 cases of Chikungunya until now.
Shivamogga is the worst affected district with 81 cases, followed by Kolar (77).
There were several dengue fever patients who were treated at Bengaluru Hospital.
Even though compared to previous years, the number of dengue fever cases has diminished in the state since the beginning of the pandemic, the alert authority against infections that are transmitted by mosquitoes.
In 2020, Karnataka saw 3,823 cases of dengue fever and five deaths.
The intermittent rainfall pattern is an additional concern because it leads to a puddle of freshwater, the authorities said.
However, officials recognize that because of Covid-19, the focus is not on the supervision of dengue fever, which beat like all other public health steps.
Dr.
Ramesh K Kucugud, Joint Director, National Vector Disease Control Program, the Department of Health and Family Welfare, said there was no case suspected of being Zika in Karnataka so far.
The department has directed all districts to place a vector management plan to prevent Zika’s plague.
Monsoon tends to facilitate the spread of aedes mosquitoes, which is the vector of the Zika virus.
“Dengue cases usually see a surge during monsoon, and health workers throughout the country have been directed to take an effective survey of larvae breeding to prevent dengue fever,” said Dr.

The BBMP accounted for 15% of the total cases of dengue fever in the state.
Dr.
BC Prasad, a pediatrician from North Bengaluru, said the need to avoid mosquito bites in the morning and prevent stagnant water in and outside the house.
He found a case of a 13-year-old girl who tested the positive Dengue in the NS1 antigen test on July 7, which proved the current infection.
“Acute fatigue, fever and rash are typical symptoms of dengue fever and someone must be careful, especially when the rainy season has begun,” said Dr.
Prasad.
