Bengaluru: Illegal mining continues in several state districts despite protests by the community after the explosion in the Shivamogga and Chikkaballapur districts that killed more than a dozen people.
The involvement of the rich, the interests of shares from local populations and political protection have provided actions taken by the state government to examine them.
Political parties often trade allegations of this problem, but many of the main political parties have shares in mining, sources of claims in the Department of Public Works and Mining Ministry.
Mandya MP Sumalata Ambaresesh, on a two-day tour of Mandya recently, was surprised to see illegal mines in the district despite a lot of raids and punishment after he raised the problem in parliament.
