Guwahati: The Indian Congress Committee (AICC) on Saturday appointed his secretary Bhupen Bora as President Assam PCC.
Together with Bhupen Bora, a member of the Senior Congress of Rana Goswami and Mlaas Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Jakir Hussain Sikdar was appointed as Work President Unit Assam.
In a statement issued by the Secretary General of AICC KC Venugopal, the party appreciated the contribution of the president out of Ripun Bora.
Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora sent his resignation to the High Command Party as soon as Congress lost the second consecutive assembly election this year.
Even though AICC immediately did not accept his resignation, the search was for his successor.
“People have given the mandate to Congress to take the role of constructive and strong opposition.
I am looking for blessings from Assam people so that I can fulfill my responsibilities with integrity and honesty,” said the head of the new PCC.
He acknowledged that it had become a difficult phase for Congress in the political history of the country but the party would fight as it was done after the day of Agitation Assam.
Bhupen Bora is the president of the Assam Youth Congress when AGP returned to power in 1996 under the leadership of Praefulla Manganta.
Assam Congress has succeeded in floating Mahajot in Assam – Anti-BJP Party Alliance with AIUDF, the People’s Bodoland (BPF), CPM, CPI, CPI-ML (Liberation) and Anchalik Gana Morcha.
However, failing to get support from Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) and Raijor Dal, two of the latest regional parties born to the anti-CAA movement.
Congress leaders previously blamed differences with AJP and Raijor Dal as one of the main reasons for their defeat in polls 2021, despite increasing the opposition calculation into 50 members Assam Assembly members.
