Chandigarh: Schools for grade 10 to 12 are reopened in Punjab on Monday with students saying they are happy to return to the classroom because they can interact with their teachers and understand better things.
Schools have been opened after almost four months.
They were closed in March amid a surge in Covid-19 case.
The state government only allows teachers and staff to return to schools that are fully vaccinated.
It is mandatory for schools to seek written approval from parents for sending their children to attend classes.
Virtual classes also continue.
The school follows all Covid protocols strictly.
“There are no students who are allowed to enter school without a mask.
The right social distance is maintained in the classroom,” said a school official in Amritsar.
Thermal scanning is being carried out at the school entrance and hand sanitis have been given to students.
Only one student was allowed to sit on the table, the school government said.
A school teacher based in Ludhiana said so far, there is a very positive response from students.
“I am happy to be able to return to school.
Even though we are learning through online mode, we can understand better in class,” said a happy student in Ludhiana.
Other students in Amritsar said, “I am very happy to return to school today.
We can now interact with our teacher in class.” In Moga, a senior high school official told reporters that they followed government instruction and only allowed students to return to classes whose parents had given their consent.
The state government says the school for students from the remaining classes must also be left open from August 2 if the Covid situation is still under control.
On Sunday, Punjab has recorded 5.98,794 cases of Covid-19 and 16,266 deaths from this disease, according to medical bulletins.
