Bengaluru: Five semi-automatic pistol toys imported from Turkey for the large Kannada film starring a leading actor and trapped in the wing of the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) wing for almost three weeks tended to be released in the days because the police have signaled green.
While filmmakers insisted they really needed toy weapons to shoot climax, Customs Bangalore was awaiting a police report confirming that they were indeed toys to avoid problems.
Sources in Kia confirmed the police issued NOC on Wednesday night and toy weapons would be released in a few days.
Police sources said the weapon appeared capable of firing real bullets but closer examinations revealed them toys.
Sumber Kia said the consignment of Istanbul reached the air cargo wing about three weeks ago.
A customs official saw five semi-automatic weapons in it and found that the maker was a weapons making company.
The package is opened and checked revealed what looks like a real semi-automatic weapon.
“Importer in Bengaluru whose name consignment was ordered from Istanbul contacted and he was found to have imported it for Kannada films starring a leading actor.
Even though he claims that they are toy weapons, the same thing is not stated in the entrance bill for imports,” the source said.
The filmmaker then told customs that the toy weapons would be used to film a climax scene and needed immediately because the film’s release date was quickly approached.
“But customs officials cannot clean it without the declaration of Bengaluru City Police, which is an assessment of authority in the case of firearms involvement,” added the source.
Bangalore customs is said to have contacted the Deputy Commissioner of Police (intelligence), Bengaluru.
After this, the police team, including ballistic specialists, visited the cargo wing in Kia and examined weapons.
