Adani Group will take over Guwahati Airport in October

Written by news2in

Guwahati: The Adani Group is ready to take over the management of the largest airport in Northeast in Guwahati in October, the official source said at the Indian Airport Authority (AAI).
Company employees will start working with the AAI staff at Lokpriya International Airport Gopinath Bordoloi from next week to get used to the task before management is submitted to private operators.
“Only security communication and air traffic will be guarded by AAI,” said the source.
Management will take over in July itself this year, but the company looks for time until October.
The airport has around 440 employees.
Airport management has recently slapped notifications to empty all 220 quarters of the AAI in the airport housing colony at the end of August.
Privatization offers have become a big problem in the latest assembly elections.
The AAI source said the takeover took some time due to the election and also the Lean business period due to the Covid-19 factor.
“Taking over airport management for or before elections can spell problems for the government,” said AAI official.
Uni (AAEU) members of the Airport Authority (AAEU) held relentless protests from August last year after the Union Cabinet agreed to hire three airports – Jaipur, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram.
Aai employees abandoned in LGBI will most likely be posted at other airports.
As the gateway to Southeast Asia, a new integrated terminal building has appeared at the airport with a capacity of 3,100 passengers at a peek hours.
“Guwahati airport is an inter-regional hub.
Why are the entire management submitted to private entities to manage terminal buildings? They do not have expertise in managing the airport,” said the leader of AEU, Pabitra Das.
