Guwahati: Assam Power Districation Corporation Limited (APDCL) has caused a loss around RS 300 Crore per month since 2018 because of non-payment of electricity bills and power theft.
Electricity bills worth RS 2,000 crore in the state have not been paid to the company.
Ironically, the state government itself is one of the main defugter.
It owed almost Rs 95 Crore to the electricity company.
According to APDCL sources, the Department of Community Health Engineering (PHED) is the largest.
It owes Rs 26 Crore to APDCL and followed by the Ministry of Health (RS 12 Crore), the Ministry of Education (more than Rs 7 Crore) and the Department of Home (more than Rs 5 Crore).
The Department of Forest owed Rs 4.94 Crore, Department of Public Works Rs 4.29 Crore, Department of Irrigation RS 6.39 Crore, Department of Animal Rs 2.26 Crore, Department of Agriculture RS 2.35 Crore, Panchayat & Rustic Rs 2.08 Crore to the Company.
The total electricity bill from the Office of Deputy Commissioner and the State Sub-Division Office has crossed Rs 5 Crore.
The Director General of Police (DGP), who came under the House Department, had more contributions from RS 3 Crore.
“Electricity bills have been delayed over the past three years.
Some letters have been sent to the department concerned in this matter, but the bill has not been cleaned.
In addition, some industries, companies and individuals owe a large amount of money to our company.” Said an APDCL official.
, He said the policy “no bill, no electricity” which applies to the government department as well.
“The APDCL team has been asked to treat hospitals carefully at the time of the pandemic.
But, the power supply to a private hospital was recently cut off because it had not paid bills worth more than RS 36 Lakh despite some reminders.”
