Guwahati: Ahead of next year’s election at a party, the Assam Congress on Monday launched a massive driver of membership targeting 33 Lakh members next year.
The President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Rana Goswami, inaugurated a special membership trip in Rajiv Bhavan on Monday before Debabrata Saikia, the leader of the Congress legislative party.
The drive will continue until March 31, 2022, covering the entire country.
As the host of the leaders of the senior Congress, including the HIRAYA Borah, Kamrul Islam Choudhury, President, Youth Congress Assam Pradesh, and Abu Saleh Nazmuddin, former minister, among others attended.
“The APCC target to register more than 33 Lakh members,” Goswami said during the program carried out by Partha Pratim Bora, the state coordinator for encouragement.
Because AICC can obtain a full-time President in September next year, the selection of organizations has been announced by AICC in all states and at the national level.
President APCC Bhupen Borah said the first phase of their target was to complete 25,000 membership per constituency.
“During the last five years we have not made a sign of membership.
Apart from the election in the election of the organization, our target is to increase membership considering Lok Sabha 2024 polls and assembly selection of 2026,” Borah said.
On November 14, he said the maximum registration of members would be carried out.
“On the day of children, the maximum registration will be made.
Our leaders will go to their respective booths to increase membership.
Our target is to register 10 Lakh members on November 14,” Borah added.
Congress faces a big challenge from BJP, which claims that their membership in the state has risen to 45 lakh.
Borah, however, said they had high hopes of young people and new voters who had become the biggest victims of unemployment, other “anti-people” price increases and policies from the BJP-led government.
“In five years, on average, we see 15,000 new voters in a election.
This will be a massive drive, focusing on young people,” he said.
“From Assam, around 300 members of Congress will eventually vote in the AICC election.
At the APCC, even I have to face the election,” Borah said, who openly supported Rahul Gandhi as the next AICC president.
